Legends of Tipu Sultan by British artist to be auctioned

Singleton's oil sketch "The Assault and Taking of Seringapatam" created in the year 1800 and originally in the collection of Lord Wellesley (The Duke of Wellington) is the highlight of the upcoming sale by auction house Osian in Mumbai on June 21.

The fourth and concluding auction under Osian's Creative India Series, the sale focuses on Goa, Cholamandel and South India showcasing antiquities and prints on Tipu Sultan and other important artworks.

A rare Tanjore company school painting of devotees and the temple car which is part of the India Office library collection in London, is also part of the sale.

The original bronze (edition of 3) by modern artist D P Roychowdhury's famous study of "Gandhiji's March to Dandi" would also go on the block.

Also in the modern art section are three top quality artworks from K C S Paniker's important Words and Symbols Series, a brilliant fantasy series work by K Ramanujam, two very rare works from J Sultan Ali's most important work "The Pramannu Darshan Series" are also part of the collection. MORE PTI
