Department Related Standing Committee (DRSC-IV) of the Jammu and Kashmir Legislative Council today laid stress on regularisation of agriculture graduates who have been working as Rehbar-i-Ziraat (Rezs).
The committee, which met here under the chairmanship of MLC Naresh Kumar Gupta, directed the Agriculture Department to provide fertilisers and seeds to farmers well before farming season and to monitor the distribution.
Legislators Ajatshatru Singh and Jehangir Hussain Mir made suggestions to improve the department's functioning.
The legislators expressed concerns over conversion of agriculture land into non-agriculture purposes affecting the state's food production. The committee recommended setting up of agriculture offices at block level and Kissan Ghar at district level for the benefit of the farmers.
Discussions were also held on covering villages under saffron mission, proper funding of agriculture varsities, and recruitment policy for gazetted and non-gazetted posts.
