"The minimum temperature in Leh dropped to the lowest recorded so far this winter to minus 11.9 degrees Celsius. The town recorded same temperature on the night of December 9," a MET official here said.
The minimum temperature in Srinagar, the summer capital of the state, was minus 0.4 degrees Celsius, up from minus 2.7 degrees Celsius the previous night.
Other towns in Kashmir Valley also recorded sub-zero temperatures, as the residents brace for the harshest 40-day period of winter known locally as Chilla-e-Kalaan (the big cold) from December 21.
