PC maker Lenovo on Tuesday said it expects to gain over 20 per cent market share in gaming PC segment in India by the end of the third quarter of this financial year, on account of portfolio expansion.
The company launched Legion Y 540 gaming laptop series and Legion Y 740 desktop, starting at around Rs 70,000 and Rs 1.3 lakh per unit, respectively.
"We launched last Legion last year. First quarter, April-June, we were 14.6 per cent. Market leader is at 30 per cent. With new portfolio we should cross 20 per cent share in the third quarter," Shailendra Katyal, executive director for consumer PC and smart devices, Lenovo India said on the sidelines of an event to launch the new devices.
He said that the gaming segment is growing rapidly in India.
"The total PC consumption in India is now driven by gaming. Gaming in India was less than 1 per cent two years back and now it is 5 per cent and it's not stopping. Gaming laptops in the range of Rs 60,000- Rs 80,000 is growing fast," Katyal said.
According to market estimates, the average selling price of a gaming laptop in India is around Rs 65,000 a unit and serious gamers look for laptops priced above Rs 1 lakh.

"In case of customisation, the price of gaming PC can go around Rs 2 lakh," Katyal said.
He said the company is now holding several events across the country to build gaming community and organising international tournaments to boost the segment.
"We are seeing demands for gaming PC coming from small towns as well. It is estimated that India has around 275 million gamers who play on mobile out of which 50 million look to move on to PCs. Gaming may be small in overall share, but it is picking up in a big way," Katyal said.
