A forest department official was injured while trying to catch the animal.
Panic gripped the residents when they spotted the wild cat entering the Krishna Colony, which is 50 km from New Delhi. The leopard later took refuge in a house.
The wild cat moved from one side to the other side of the colony as panicked residents gathered on rooftops to catch a glimpse of it.
On receiving information, police swung into action and the forest officials were alerted.
She said the forest department officials would take a call on where to release the animal.
