A leopard was killed while two cat leopards got rescued from different parts of Assam today, officials said.
The leopard, which had created panic and lifted several domestic animals at Nimnagarh in Sibsagar district, was found dead at the backyard of a person in the area.
There were signs of several injuries caused by sharp weapons on the animal's body and it was suspected that local people had killed it though no arrests have been made so far, the officials said.
Meanwhile, two cat leopard cubs, which had strayed into a house in Piyoli Phukan Nagar of Chandmari in Guwahati, were rescued by forest employees and taken to the Assam State Zoo here, they said.
The leopard cat is a small wild cat found in South and East Asia. The name is derived from leopard-like spots prevalent on their bodies but its relation to leopard is distant.
