Cautioning there should not be any intervention in the functioning of GTA, Gorkha Janmukti Morcha (GJM) chief Bimal Gurung today said the Lepcha language would not be taught in the hill primary schools.
Hinting that the GJM will not go by West Bengal Chief Minister Mamata Banerjee's promises to Lepcha community during her visit in September, Gurung told a public rally here, "If the Lepcha language is taught, other dialects like Tamang, Sherpa, Tibetan, Rai and Gurung would also have to be introduced in schools."
Gurung, who warned there should not be "Any intervention in the functioning," of the hill body, said "This (school education) is under the GTA. We want no intervention in its functioning."
The comments came at a time the GJM is poised to hold bipartite and tripartite talks with the state and the Centre on November 20 and 21.
