Lt Governor Anil Baijal today directed the Delhi Police to leverage the latest technology to empower beat staff and improve their visibility in the field.
Chairing a meeting on law and order, Baijal also said that steps should be undertaken to update beat policing.
"The LG suggested that appropriate steps should be taken for upgrading technical skills of beat staff so that they can leverage latest technology and become multi-functional in order to meet future challenges," said a statement from the Lt Governor's office.
He also asked for improved visibility of the beat policemen, the statement said.
The meeting was attended by the principal secretary (home), commissioner of police and other top Delhi Police officers.
Baijal was informed by the officials that about 8,000 police personnel, including about 700 women, have been deployed as beat officials across 163 police stations of the national capital.

The Lt Governor encouraged the initiative undertaken by the Delhi Police in East district, for briefing of staff at public areas, and directed its replication in other districts as well.
He also encouraged the practice of beat officials visiting the senior citizens, saying it instilled security and assurance among them.
The LG also advised introducing a system to incentivise performing personnel.
