Licensed weapons deposited with police in view of LS polls

In view of Lok Sabha polls, 70,101 licenced weapons have been deposited by people at various police stations and other designated places across the state so far, official sources said here today.
Besides, 828 licensed weapons have been seized and 216 arms licenses cancelled by the authorities, for not following directives issued by the election office.
A total of 5,177 non-bailable warrants have been issued, out of which 1,065 were issued during the last 24 hours.
Similarly, 3313 illegal weapons have been seized, including 382 weapons during the last 24 hours, sources said.
Action has been taken under various sections of the Criminal Procedure Code against 17,520 people so far and 10,520 people have been rounded up for conducting polls in a free and fair manner.
During the drive, two types of explosives, three different kinds of bombs and 171 live cartridges were also seized, sources said.
