Life size statue of General K M Cariappa unveiled at OTA

A life size bronze statue of the first Commander-in-Chief of the Indian Army, Field Marshal K M Cariappa, was unveiled at the Officer's Training Academy here today.

It was unveiled by his son, retired Air Marshal K C Cariappa.

Retired Major Generals T K Kaul and V D Chowgule were also present on the occasion.

The statue was donated by alumni of the 5th Short Service Commission course, to commemorate the golden jubilee of their Commissioning from the academy, an OTA press release said.

They had passed out from the academy in June 1968.

About 250 officers and ladies of the fifth Short Service Course Commission arrived here from various countries like U.S.A., United Kingdom and Canada to take part in the event.

Some of the local batch mates (of Cariappa) who attended the function include Lieutenant General K S Siva Kumar, retired Chief Secretary, A Nagarajan, Captain Nirmal Singh Hira among others.

Major General T K Kaul who was the first Short Service Officer to be bestowed with Param Vishisht Seva Medal, along with other batch officers who excelled in the Army were also present on the occasion, the release added.
