The prosecution case was that Ramesh, who was a 20-year-old then, had befriended a 10th standard girl and had physical relations with her, which ended in her pregnancy in 2110.
Though the girl's parents pleaded with Ramesh, an electrician, to marry her, he refused.
Based on a complaint by the parents, police arrested Ramesh. However, he came out on bail and married another girl and the case was going on in a Mahila Court here.
Mahila Court Judge M P Subramanian awarded life sentence to Ramesh and also ordered him to pay Rs 50,000 as compensation to the girl.
