Light rain, dust storm bring down mercury in Delhi

Light rain in several parts of Delhi today brought relief from the scorching weather prevailing in the city as mercury plunged significantly to below standard levels.
After a cloudy morning, the city was hit by a dust storm accompanied by light showers.
"A dust storm with wind speed of 80 km per hour hit the national capital," said an official of MeT department.
According to the Met department, the Safdarjung observatory, considered the official reading for the city, recorded 2.4 mm rainfall while areas under Lodhi Road, Palam, Ridge and Ayanagar received 6.2 mm, 2.1 mm, 2 mm and 6 mm rain respectively.
The maximum temperature was recorded three notches below the season's average at 35.9 degrees Celsius while the minimum settled at 27.5 degrees Celsius, two notches above normal, a MeT department official said.
Humidity oscillated between 44 and 86 per cent.
The weatherman has predicted partly cloudy sky along with one or two spells of light rain tomorrow.
"The sky will be partly cloudy tomorrow. One or two spells of light rain or thundershowers could occur in some areas. The maximum and minimum temperatures are expected to hover at 37 and 27 degrees respectively," the MeT forecast said.
