Light rain lashes Bihar post-cyclone Phailin

Light rains lashed Bihar today due to the impact of cyclone Phailin, affecting the Durga Puja festival even as a heavy downpour has been forecast for the next three days that may trigger a flood-like situation in North Bihar.
Light showers has been lashing Bihar since this morning due to the atmospheric pressure created by cyclone Phailin, the Patna MET Director Ashish Kumar Sen told PTI.
The sky had turned overcast since last evening and a thick layer of cloud enveloped atmosphere causing intermittent light rains since this morning, he said.
The depression created by cyclone Phailin will stay in Bihar for next three days till October 15 next precipitating heavy rainfall in South and North Bihar, Sen said.
While heavy rains are expected to lash South Bihar today, North Bihar districts located in the upper catchment area of Nepal and Koshi and Gandak river will witness heavy rainfall particularly on October 15 next that may trigger a flood-like situation, the Patna MET Director said.
Meanwhile, Principal Secretary (Disaster Management Department) Vyasji will hold a meeting of the departmental officials to review preparedness for a likely flood-like situation amid the weather office forecast of heavy rainfall in Bihar over the next three days, official sources said.
