Lightning kills woman; heavy rain in Ramanathapuram dist

A 38-year-old woman was struck dead by lighting in Ramanathapuram district as heavy rain lashed the region, officials today said.
The woman died after being struck by lightning last night at Kaamakottai in the district, officials said.
Rameswaram received 110.6 mm of rain in the last 24 hours ending 0800 hours today while Thiruvadanai, another temple town in the district,received 62mm.
Thangachimadam, Mandapam and Ramanthapuram town also experienced heavy rains, officials said.
The rains have brought relief to people sweltering from the heat.
Meanwhile, the Pechiparai dam in Kanyakumari district received 228 cusecs of water following rains in several parts of the district.

The Peruchani dam received 99 cusecs,while Sitrar 1-dam received 72 cusecs and Sitrar-two dam received 72 and 117 cusecs respectively.
