Linganmakki reservoir touches brim

Incessant rains in Sharavathi catchments area since a week has allowed famous Linganamakki reservoir, the main source for hydroelectric power in the state, to touch its brim today.
The 1819 feet dam is receiving an inflow of 19,970 cusecs and authorities of Karnataka power Corporation maintaining the dam have been releasing 14,920 cusses to flow into the river, officials said.
Consequent to release of dam water into the river, the famous Jog Falls has regained its original splendor attracting a large number of visitors.
The reservoir provides water for production of power from Sharavathi generating units at Jog, Talakale and at Gerusoppa generating units. KPC produces a total of 1469 MW power from a total of 18 generating units.

The Linganamakki which has touched its brim 14 times since its inauguration by former Prime Minister Lal Bhadhur Shastry in 1964 collects a total of 4435 million cubic feet of water with its brim level.
