Link agriculture with ayurveda, says minister

With an aim to double the farmer's income by 2022 in the country, Union Minister Gajendra Singh Shekhawat has stressed on the need of linking agriculture with the ayurveda.
The minister of state for agriculture and farmers welfare was speaking on the occasion of the 16th foundation day of Dr Sarvepalli Radhakrishnan Rajasthan Ayurveda University here on Saturday.
Referring to the vision of doubling the income of farmers by 2022, Shekhawat said by linking the agriculture with the ayurveda, not only the income of the farmers could be increased, but will also boost ayurveda practice in the country.
"Practice of Ayurveda has been growing in not only the country but entire world due to growing recognition of this ancient medical practice. For this, we will have to prepare ourselves to meet this growing demand and expectations from us," he said.
The minister also emphasised on the need for research in the field.
"...seminars are required to be done for the identification of the ayurveda herbs with respect to the their geo-climate conditions and promote their protected cultivation and harvesting," he said.
Noting the achievements of the university, the vice chancellor of the university Radheshyam Sharma said the university had emerged as centre of excellence in the field of "Panchkarma" and research on thalassaemia, which has already been initiated in the university.
