A veterinary doctor along with three internees and animal keeper Sri Krishna were at the centre passage to vaccinate the lions when Krishna was attacked, Park's Executive Director Range Gowda said.
"Soon after one of the animal keepers mistakenly lifted a side gate instead of the squeeze cage side gate which is used for vaccinating lions, two lions escaped and pounced Krishna," Gowda said.
"After 2-5 minutes, all animal keepers of the safari rushed to Krishna's rescue which took 10 to 15 minutes. Immediately, he was taken to Appolo Hospital for treatment," he added.
"When he (Krishna) was brought to the hospital, there were multiple injuries over his body and his blood pressure was recorded low. He had also lost large amount of blood due to the injuries," Doctors said.
They further said "....There is a deep injury on his neck; his cervical spine has been fractured. There are also injuries on his chest and a small contusion on his lungs. His intestine has got damaged due to a major injury he sustained on his stomach. Besides, there is a fracture in the lumbar region and also on his pelvis bone....
