Liquor haul ahead of MCD polls, two held

A bootlegger and another person were arrested for allegedly planning to trade liquor during the MCD elections and a large number of liquor bottles seized from them, police said today.
"Based on a tip off, a police team caught the bootlegger Sushil Chopra (28) and an employee of a liquor shop Amit (33) Tuesday when they were loading large quantity of liquor cartons in a car without possessing necessary documents," DCP (Crime) Bhisham Singh said.
240 bottles of beer, eight cartons of whisky have been recovered and the liquor shop -- Arjun Continental Pvt Ltd located at TDI Fun Republic Mall in Moti Nagar has been sealed, he said.
During interrogation, Chopra informed that was also arrested in November last year and booked under the Excise Act.
"He also confessed about his dealings with Rajesh Mittal, the owner of the liquor shop, who used to to sell large quantity of liquor without any document at 4 per cent discount," the DCP said.
"Presently the liquor was stocked to bridge the demand during the upcoming MCD elections in Delhi," Singh said.
According to the police, the accused have been sent to judicial custody and a hunt is on to nab the Mittal, the liquor shop owner, who has been absconding.
