The Delhi Commission for Women (DCW) has issued a notice to the deputy commissioner of the city government's excise department seeking shifting of a liquor shop situated near a civic body-run school in Rohini.
DCW chairperson Swati Maliwal has asked the excise department to also submit a report regarding the same within seven days.
The guardians of the students and teachers of the schools had complained to the commission about the liquor shop, a statement by the Delhi women's panel said.
The commission had earlier asked the Sub-Divisional Magistrate (SDM) of the area to file a report on the liquor shop. The SDM's report stated that the distance between the liquor shop and the school's back wall is less than 10 meters.
The report also stated that due to the liquor shop, the atmosphere in the area has turned noxious and is impacting the school children in a bad way. The SDM suggested that the liquor shop be shifted, the DCW statement said.
The guardians of the school students, the principal and teachers in their complaint to the DCW had said that in 2014, there were 872 students (467 boys, 405 girls) in the school, but due to the liquor shop, more and more parents are opting their children out of the school and sending them to other schools.
In 2017, the school has only 548 students, of which 271 are girls, the complaint stated.
The compliant also stated that as the liquor shop is against the backside wall of the school, inebriated men pass indecent comments on students and teacher, and they also throw empty liquor bottles in the school premises.
