Liquor worth over Rs 30 lakh seized

Liquor worth over Rs 30 lakh, allegedly meant for distribution during panchayat polls, was seized from a truck near toll plaza on Yamuna Expressway under Mant police station of the district.
"Thousand boxes of wine were being smuggled to Ferozabad from Chandigarh. It was meant to be used during panchayat elections," District Excise Officer Pawan Kumar said.
"The market value of the wine is over Rs 30 lakh," he added.
Two persons- Darshan Lal and Virender, residents of Patiala were arrested in the incident, Kumar said, adding that the duo has confessed about their role in smuggling the liquor for the elections.
"Since the wine has been made in Chandigarh Queen Distillers and Bottlers Pvt Ltd, FIR would also be filed against its General Manager and Management," the officer said.
