Livestock officer arrested by Anti-Corruption Bureau for graft

A livestock development officer from Murbad who allegedly took a bribe from the beneficiary of a government scheme was arrested by the Thane Unit of the Anti-Corruption Bureau (ACB) today, official sources said.
Superintendent of Police (ACB) Datta Karale of the ACB's Thane Unit said that according to the beneficiary's complaint, he was sanctioned a sum of Rs 64,000 for cattle rearing.
The complainant received the first instalment of Rs 15,000 by cheque and was to receive the balance.
Livestock development officer Bhagwan K Patil (32) was supposed to pay Rs 49,000 to the beneficiary.
However, Patil took the beneficiary's signature on a cash voucher of Rs 45,000, but paid him only Rs 38,000, keeping Rs 7,000 with him, the ACB said.

Additional Superitendent Srinivas Ghatge of the ACB's Thane Unit told PTI that the arrested officer Patil who witheld Rs 7,000 has been charged under various sections of the Prevention of Corruption Act, 1988, and that a further probe is being carried out by the ACB's Thane unit.
