A delegation of Dharamsala-based Tibetan Parliament-in-exile held a four-day lobby campaign here to highlight the "critical situation" of Tibetans in China and to put diplomatic pressure on the Chinese government to improve human rights conditions there.
The delegation was in Arunachal Pradesh to seek support for its nation-wide parliamentary lobby campaign, its spokesman said here today.
The lobby campaign in Arunachal Pradesh ended yesterday.
The delegation met Chief Minister Nabam Tuki, leaders of the opposition parties - BJP, NCP, PPA, besides members of the state chapter of the Tibet Support Group, the spokesman said.
Tibet was an independent country till China occupied it fully in 1951. The Dalai Lama and his followers left the country and took refuge in India. For the last 60 years Tibetans have engaged themselves in peaceful resistance against the Chinese repression.
In 2008, there were nationwide peaceful protests in Tibet and at least 117 Tibetans resorted to self-immolation since 2009. Of these, 100 succumbed to their injuries.
