The callers are trying to get inputs and information about local affairs from villagers by randomly calling them on their mobile phones.

"We received a letter from Border Security Force (BSF) a few days back in which it was stated that suspicious calls were being made from across the border to local residents," Jaisalmer District Collector Shuchi Tyagi said today.

"Initially, the caller says to the local resident that he has won a lottery of Rs. 5 lakh and inquires about his name and address. He also mentions that the draw was made by the village sarpanch and patwari (a revenue official).

"As the talk continues, the caller seeks additional information about the locality and other affairs pertaining to administration and others," she said.

She said the caller sometimes introduces himself as an Army officer and seeks information about the local area.

"Local residents have been asked not to attend unknown ISD calls which appear to be generated from Pakistan. It has been made clear to people that the callers from across the border to seek local information will not be in the interest of nation," Tyagi said.

Jaisalmer is one of the 4 districts of Rajasthan which shares border with Pakistan.
