Around 12 persons were injured when locals of east Delhi's Chilla village stopped five trucks carrying cattle and allegedly thrashed the drivers and helpers of the vehicles, police said here today.
According to the police, the incident was reported around 11.30 PM yesterday. Locals of Chilla village, located near east Delhi's Mayur Vihar extension, waylaid four large trucks and a mini truck and asked the drivers and helpers of the vehicles to deboard one after another.
Then they conducted a quick check and on finding cattle inside the vehicles, they allegedly started thrashing the drivers and helpers.
One of the drivers managed to dodge the mob and called up the police control room.
When the cops reached the spot, the locals allegedly resorted to stone pelting. Police then had to use mild force to bring the situation under control. Two locals and a few animals were injured during stone pelting, a police official said.
The chaos started with around 15 locals, which soon turned into a mob, the official said.

The trucks, which had come from Najafgarh area and were heading towards Ghazipur Mandi, have also been impounded.
The police later called up an NGO and handed over the recovered cattle to them. "Further investigation of both the cases are underway," the official added.
