On a day a massive fire gutted the Natural Museum of Natural History, former Environment Minister Jairam Ramesh questioned its current location, saying during his tenure he had made attempts twice so that it could be "relocated".
Ramesh, who visited the incident spot in the morning, said two offers of land -- one between Pragati Maidan and Delhi Zoo and the other near Botanical Garden in Noida -- did not work out.
"I had even arranged a six-acre land for the museum between Pragati Maidan and Delhi Zoo, so that the museum could be relocated. This (the present location) is not the right location for the museum. For some reason, the relocation could not take place.
"Later, another land was offered near Botanical Garden in Noida. But it did not work. This museum requires space and it is pretty cramped here (the present location)," Ramesh told reporters.
He said even the Parliament building, and government buildings like Shastri Bhawan and Udyog Bhawan are vulnerable to incidents of fire.
The museum, established in 1978, comes under the Union Environment Ministry.
