The governor is considering the Uttar Pradesh Lokayukta and Up-Lokayukta (Amendment) Bill, 2015, and a decision in this regard will be taken after a proper examination, a Raj Bhawan release here said.
The said bill ,passed by the state legislature in the recently concluded monsoon session, seeks to make the panel a four-member body of Chief Minister, Leader of the Opposition, Speaker and a retired judge following a tug of war between the government and Raj Bhawan over appointment of justice (retd) Ravindra Singh as Lokayukta .
The bill to amend the existing act was brought by the government after Governor Ram Naik had refused to give his nod on the ground that no proper meeting of the three-member selection committee was held and also because Allahabad High Court Chief Justice D Y Chandrachud had expressed reservations citing Singh's proximity to the ruling Samajwadi Party.
Meanwhile, the governor has given his assent to six of the 11 bills passed by the legislature in the monsoon session, sent three to the President and is examining one other besides the Lokayukta amendment bill, the release added.
