'Sandhya', the 14-year-old tigress who was a major attraction for tourists and locals visiting the Bondla wildlife sanctuary in Goa, died today.
The big cat died of a natural cause in the zoo, Forest department stated in a release.
'Rana', the male feline partner of 'Sandhya', died at 16 at the same zoo around six months back.
"The zoo is now without any tiger on display. Sandhya's death could be attributed to a natural cause as she was 14 years and 4 months of age," the statement said.
'Sandhya', born in February 2003, was brought to the zoo along with 'Rana' on July 17, 2009, in a friendly exchange for a pair of bisons from Indira Gandhi Zoological Park in Visakhapatnam in Andhra Pradesh.
