The US has said it is looking forward to further advancing the Indo-US relationship with the appointment of new Foreign Secretary S Jaishankar who assumed the office replacing Sujatha Singh.
"We have an important and growing relationship with India, as evidenced by the fact that the Secretary of State and the President of the United States were both there in the last couple of weeks," the State Department spokesperson Jen Psaki told reporters yesterday.
S Jaishankar took charge as Foreign Secretary yesterday, replacing Sujatha Singh whose tenure was abruptly "curtailed" by India.
"We will look forward to working with the new ambassador whenever they are named," Psaki said when asked about the appointment of S Jaishankar, who till early this week was Indian Ambassador to the US.
The new Indian Ambassador to the US has not been named yet.
