The cash rich ancient hill temple during the nine-day Brahmotsavam has fetched a total income of about Rs 25 crore and of this the cash offerings by devotees in the hundi has netted about Rs 20.4 crore, temple sources told PTI.
During the Brahmotsavam about seven lakh devotees thronged the hill temple while half of them had their heads tonsured before entering the shrine for worship.
This year Brahmotsavam has received a princely offering of a huge golden "Sahasra Nama Kaasula Mala" (golden garland), valued at about Rs 8.3 crore on the opening day of the nine-day annual Brahmotsavam festivities on September 23 from a devotee.
The jumbo garland offering, weighing about 28 kg, contained as many as 1008 golden coins carrying the holy names of Lord Venkateswara was offered by M Ramalinga Raju, an entrepreneur in Vijayawada in Andhra Pradesh, the sources added.
