Lorries from southern states not to enter Karnataka
Press Trust of India Namakkal (TN) Over 30,000 lorries from Tamil Nadu, Kerala, Andhra Pradesh and Puducherry would not enter Karnataka from this midnight expressing solidarity with striking sand transporters in that state, a senior official of All-India Motor Transport Congress (South Zone) said today.
Lorries and tankers operated by associations affiliated to the AIMTC would not enter Karnataka and booking of goods for that state had been stopped, zonal vice-president Anitha Velu told reporters here, a hub of truckers.
Members of the Federation of the Karnataka Lorry Owners' Association have been on an indefinite strike for the 22 days protesting the new sand policy in the wake of sand price touching Rs 80,000 mark for a truckload.
They are intensifying the stir from midnight tonight with the support of various other transport operators.
