The actor passed away earlier this week due to complications from genetic disorder Alpha 1-antitrypsin deficiency, which affects the lungs and blood.
MCCarter began his career as a model and went on to star in his first feature film, "Thrashin", in 1986.
In addition to "Thrashin" and "The Lost Boys", in which he played Paul, he also booked roles in "The Twilight Zone", "Route 66" and "Wired".
He subsequently turned his talents to music and served as a drummer and music programmer, and also began scoring independent feature films and documentaries.
