More rains were likely in north Tamil Nadu over the next two days under the influence of the well marked low pressure area over the Bay of Bengal, which may develop into a depression, the weather office said today.
"The yesterday's well marked low pressure area now lies over west central and adjoining south west bay of southern Andhra and northern Tamil Nadu coast," Director of Regional Meteorological Centre (RMC) here S R Ramanan told PTI.
Asked if the present system could develop into a depression, he said, "it may move further and might develop into a depression, we are closely monitoring."
Under the influence of the system, many places in northern Tamil Nadu and one or two places in southern Tamil Nadu will witness rainfall, he added. Isolated heavy rain may occur in some places in northern Tamil Nadu.
The North East monsoon, which accounts for 48 per cent of total annual rainfall of Tamil Nadu, has set in yesterday with several parts of the state experiencing rains.
