A low pressure area over Bay of Bengal is likely to trigger heavy rainfall in some places in Odisha, even as several areas of the state were lashed by rains and thundershower today.
Under the influence of an upper air cyclonic circulation, the low pressure area has formed over Westcentral and adjoining Northwest Bay of Bengal off south Odisha and north Andhra Pradesh coast, the MeT office here said.
The associated upper air cyclonic circulation extends up to 5.8 km above mean sea level.
Under its impact, rain and thundershower would occur at many places over coastal Odisha and at a few places over interior districts of the state during next 24 hours, it said.
Besides, heavy rainfall is likely to occur at one or two places over Ganjam, Gajapati, Puri, Rayagada, Malkangiri, Koraput, Khorda, Kandhamal and Nayagarh districts during next 24 hours, it added.
