The low pressure area over northern parts of central Bay of Bengal now lies as a well marked low pressure area over northwest Bay of Bengal and neighbourhood, the MeT office said.
The associated upper air cyclonic circulation extends up to 5.8 km above the mean sea level and the system is likely to concentrate into a depression in next the 48 hours, it said.
In addition, heavy to very heavy rainfall is likely to occur at one or two places over the districts of Balasore, Jajpur, Bhadrak, Maurbhanj and heavy rainfall in Angul, Dhenkanal, Keonjhar, Khurda, Cuttack, Kendrapara, Jagatsinghpur, Puri, Gajapati, Nayagarh and Ganjam during next 24 hours, it said.
Squally, gusty surface wind from northwesterly direction in south Odisha coast and northeasterly direction in north Odisha coast with speed reaching 45-50 kmph is likely to prevail along and off the Odisha coast, the Met office said.
