"A cyclonic circulation over north Bay of Bengal has intensified into a low pressure and will bring rains in all districts of Gangetic West Bengal with isolated heavy rains in the next two days," regional MeT Director G K Das said.
Intermittent rains have begun in the districts since morning today and has cooled down the weather, which has been warm and humid for the last several days leading to discomfort among people.
"Water level in the rivers and reservoirs is well-below danger level and there is no fear of floods at present," state minister for Irrigation Rajib Banerjee told PTI.
"However, we are on active alert and are keeping watch on embankments and other relevant places round-the-clock," Banerjee said.
The city has recorded 38.6 mm rainfall in 24 hours since yesterday morning, the MeT department said.
