A delegation of O Panneerselvam supporters today urged the Centre to immediately provide security cover to the former Tamil Nadu chief minister and RK Nagar bypoll contestant Madhusudhanan, claiming the two leaders are facing various "threats".
The delegation led by MP Maitreyan today met Home Minister Rajnath Singh to put forth their request.
"We have asked the Central government to provide security to former Chief Minister O Panneerselvam who is experiencing serious security threat in the state," Maitreyan said.
Besides, Maitreyan also sought protection for AIADMK veteran E Madhusudhanan, the candidate from the Panneerselvam camp to contest the R K Nagar bypoll.
"Ever since Madhusudhanan was announced as a candidate from our party, he has been receiving threat calls on his phone. We have sought protection for him also," Maitreyan said.
The delegation cited examples of previous attacks on the leaders and asked for the Centre's to provide security to them.
