Lok Sabha Speaker Sumitra Mahajan today met Latvian President Raimonds Vejonis and said that the bilateral ties could be strengthened further through mutual high-level governmental, parliamentary and cultural exchanges.
"India and Latvia share a broad convergence of views on issues such as United Nations reforms and other aspects of global order," a Lok Sabha Secretariat statement quoted Mahajan as saying.
She also appreciated Latvian support to India for permanent membership of the reformed and expanded UN Security Council.
Mahajan also extended her greetings to the people on the auspicious occasion of Eid-ul-Fitr.
"Id-ul-Fitr symbolises the spirit of giving, sharing and enriches our lives with the eternal values of brotherhood and empathy for the deprived," she said.
