Commissioned into the Bengal Sappers in December 1981, the officer has had an illustrious and a chequered career spanning 35 years, they said.
Lt Gen D S Ahuja replaces Lt Gen S P Nawathe and had earlier served as Chief Engineer Eastern Command, involved in the planning and execution of major infrastructure projects for the Army, Navy and Air Force, Defense Spokesperson Amit Mahajan said.
He has also served as a military observer at Angola as part of the United Nations Mission and is known to have performed exceedingly well in various courses of instruction, Mahajan said.
