Former Director General of Assam Rifles, Lt Gen (retd) Shokin Chauhan has taken over as the new Chairman of Ceasefire Monitoring Group (CFMG), Nagaland, officials said today.
Chauhan was appointed as the new chairman on August 16 following the completion of tenure of D K Pathak on August 9, said Staff Officer of CFMG T Mere here today.
Chauhan's tenure will be for a year.
He will be responsible for monitoring the ceasefire ground rules at a time when expectations are high among the Naga underground groups, civil societies and the state government for achieving a solution to the decades-old Naga political talks, especially after the signing of Framework Agreement in 2015 between the NSCN(IM) and Centre.
Six other Naga nationalist political groups have also entered into parleys with the Centre since September last year.
