Lieutenant General Tumul Varma on Monday took over as the General Officer Commanding of 101 Area Army unit, officials said here.
Commissioned into the Corps of Electronics and Mechanical Engineering in December 1984, the general officer has an illustrious career spanning 35 years, according to Defence spokesman Ratnakar Singh.
Varma has been a military observer as part of the United Nations Mission in Somalia besides commanding an Electronics and Mechanical Engineering Battalion.
He has held important staff appointments at the Army Headquarters and various Command and Corps Headquarters dealing with Operational Logistics, Training and Financial Planning.
He has also been an Instructor at the prestigious Defence Services Staff College in Wellington.
