Lt Governor Najeeb Jung today visited the Lok Nayak Jai Prakash Narayan (LNJP) Hospital and inspected the medical and infrastructural facilities available there.
During the visit, Jung visited the new facilities being developed especially the new OPDs and gave suggestions to improve the facilities, keeping the patients' needs and concerns in mind.
Jung's visit was part of the government's efforts to convert LNJP Hospital into a model health care facility in the national capital.
In March 2014, a meeting to review the functioning of Hospitals was convened by Jung in which he had highlighted the need to improve patient care facilities and infrastructure of hospitals, while directed the officials to look into ways to convert LNJP and Guru Teg Bahadur Hospitals into model health care facilities.
"He had constituted a committee under the chairpersonship of Secretary (Finance), with Secretary (Health), Secretary (PWD) as members, who were directed to adopt the LNJP and Guru Teg Bahadur Hospitals so that they could become model hospitals, at par with the best health care facilities in Delhi NCR," a press realease by the LG office said.
The Lieutenant Governor will further take a meeting with the officials to take forward the steps to convert the LNJP into a model hospital within a stipulated time frame, it added.
He also visited the catering facilities and voiced concerns about the food being served to the patients. He was informed that the Delhi Institute of Hotel Management and Catering Technology is helping the hospital improve its catering services.
Lok Nayak Jai Prakash Narayan Hospital, earlier known as Irwin hospital, dates back to the 1930s and has been offering medical facilities in the NCT of Delhi for several decades. There is an average footfall of 25,000 people to the hospital complex every day.
