US-based chemical giant Lubrizol Corporation will start its Chlorinated Polyvinyl Chloride (CPVC) compounding material plant at Dahej in Bharuch district of Gujarat tomorrow.
"The plant, having a capacity to produce 55,000 metric tonnes of CPVC material annually, has been built with an investment of Rs 325 crore and will start production from tomorrow after an opening ceremony there," President of Lubrizol Advanced Materials, Eric Schnur, told reporters here today.
According to Schnur, this will be the company's first ever CPVC plant in India. Construction work for the plant began in April, 2014 and it has been completed in two years' time.
"This plant also makes Lubrizol the first major global producer of CPVC to establish operations in India. Initially, we plan to cater to the demands of Indian manufacturers, who have tied up with us to make pipes and other plumbing products using this material. Later, we will focus on exports," he said.
He said the demand for CPVC material in India is around 90,000 metric tonnes, and claimed that Lubrizol enjoys the highest stake in the overall market here.
"There is an ample room for expansion in this facility at Dahej. So we have the capability to export, mainly to south Asia, Africa as well as Middle Eastern countries. We are not exporting right now from here, but ultimately, we see Dahej as an important part of our global operations in the long run," Schnur said.
Lubrizol Corporation, having its headquarters in Wickliffe, Ohio, was founded in 1928. It employs about 9,000 people worldwide.
The company registered a revenue of USD 7 billion in 2014.
