"Among class 1 cities, for males, unemployment rate in usual status (adjusted) was the highest for Lucknow (8.5 per cent) and for females it was the highest in Patna (34.6 per cent)," said the report based on employment and unemployment survey conducted in the 68th round of National Sample Survey during July 2011 to June 2012.
Cities with a population of one million or more are termed as class 1 cities. Towns with population of 50,000 to less than one million are classified as class 2 and those with population less than 50,000 are classified as class 3 towns.
Similarly, the unemployment rate for women was 4.3 per cent for class 1 cities, 6.3 per cent for class 2 towns and 4.8 per cent for size class 3 towns.
Among class 1 cities, after Patna, Kanpur has the highest unemployment rate for women at 22.7 per cent followed by Kalyan-Dombivili at 11 per cent.
For men, Patna followed Lucknow with unemployment rate at 8 per cent. Hyderabad was at third place with a rate of 5.9 per cent.
