''An environment of fear is pervading in the state with activities of miscreants and anti-social elements on the rise,'' the former chief minister said at a CPI(M) rally in this township in North 24 Parganas district.
The law and order had worsened to the extent that women were in a state of panic with reports of molestation and assault by anti-socials pouring in from districts almost everyday and the administration remaining passive, he alleged.
TMC was encouraging lumpens and anti-social elements so much so that miscreants were feeling 'safe' under it, he alleged and called for a strong mass protest.
He charged the government of 'failing to move an inch forward' either in agriculture or industry due to the inept administration. ''False promises are still being given almost daily about employment and development which are just bogus.''
Had the Nano car factory come up at Singur 10,000 job opportunities would have been created, he said and lambasted the TMC government for resorting to murder, violence and road blockades to undo all efforts of the previous Left regime to usher in industrial prosperity in the state.
He also accused TMC of joining hands with Maoists to frustrate all initiatives of the erstwhile LF government to develop Nandigram.
''All hopes on agriculture and industry in West Bengal have been dashed while Andhra Pradesh, Tamilnadu and Odisha have been steadily progressing,''
Bhattacharjee criticised Mamata Banerjee government also for 'wasting' public money in non-planned sectors and indulging in festivals and its own advertisements, which, he said, have been objected to by the Planning Commission.
