The New York-based couple has apparently bonded over their similar interests, reported Us magazine.
"She loves his humanitarianism. They'd both passionate about African issues," a source said.
K'Naan, 36, has two sons with pharmacy tech ex-wife Deqa Warsame. But the 31-year-old '12 Years A Slave' actress and K'Naan are taking things slow.
"She hasn't met his kids," the source added.
The Kenyan beauty was previously linked to 'Dallas Buyers Club' actor Jared Leto, but she had denied the rumors.
