United Democratic Party (UDP) working president Paul Lyngdoh today filed his nomination for the upcoming Lok Sabha polls after having secured the support of one regional party and despite the reluctance of two other outfits to back his electoral bid.
Lyngdoh has the support of National People's Party in the Shillong constituency but the Hill State People's Democratic Party (HSPDP) and Khun Hynniewtrep National Awakening Movement (KHNAM) are reportedly upset over his candidature.
The latter two parties are more keen on PBM Basaiawmoit as their candidate of choice.
"We are supporting the UDP candidate in Shillong since they will be supporting our candidate PA Sangma for the Tura seat," NPP spokesperson James Sangma told reporters.
Former Lok Sabha Speaker Sangma has been pitted against Congress nominee Daryl Momin for the Tura Lok Sabha seat.
AAP candidate, retired IFS officer A Kharshiing, sitting Congress MP Vincent Pala and Basaiawmoit are expected to file their nominations soon.
