M G University to introduce dementia programme

Mahatma Gandhi University here has initiated talks with Bangor University in North Wales, UK for commencing the first ever international academic program in Dementia (Nursing) in the country.
An academic team from Bangor University is expected to visit MG University by the end of September to carry out a detailed discussion regarding the introduction of the programme, a university release said here.
MG University Vice Chancellor Babu Sebastian said they would take initiative for studies and research in the area and a first round of talk in this regard was held at the university campus here on Friday.
The academic strengths and infrastructure facilities of the MG University in the Schools of Behavioural Sciences, Medical Education and Inter University Centre for Bio Medical Research would be utilised for commencement of the programme, he said.
The students getting enrolled in the two semester post graduate diploma program will also get trained in North Wales for which the foreign hospitality will be taken care of by the host University.
The Dementia Service Development Centre, UK will support MG University to augment its infrastructure facilities for lecture delivery and interaction with faculty in UK.

Bangor University chartered in 1885 is offering specialised programmes in nursing like Adult Nursing , Mental Health Nursing Learning Disability Nursing Children's Nursing, Midwifery, Critical Care (Coronary Care), Critical Care (High Dependency), Critical Care (Intensive Care) and Critical Care (Renal).
Besides the Vice Chancellor, Registrar M R Unni, Adult Psychiatry Head of the Medical College, Bangor Dr Manoj Rajagopal, Director of School of Behavioural Sciences P S Sukumaran and Associate Professor Rincymol Mathew participated in the first round of talks held here, the release added.
