Concerned over the stir, which is affecting patients, Council Deputy Chairman Vasant Davkhare asked the Government to issue directives to resident doctors to immediately call off their strike or else he would himself issue an order to this effect.
Davkhare also described the hospital's Dean, T P Lahane, who has been accused of harassment by the agitating doctors, as "an asset to society".
"It has been three days since the strike started. There seems to be a conspiracy behind this strike to malign the Dean's image. Someone wants Dr Lahane to get into trouble."
Ever since Lahane took charge of the Government-run medical facility in 2010, the number of visiting patients has increased from 5 to 9 lakh. The number of surgeries conducted there has also increased substantially," he said.

"J J ranks 5th across the country in terms of quality of services provided. Also, due to Dr Lahane's efforts, the hospital got an approval for a Rs 650-crore extension project. There is somebody from the ruling party who is fuelling the strike," he alleged.
"I have spoken to both, the doctor and the students. I, too, share the same feelings regarding Lahane as you (Munde). But, when I sit on (Ministerial) chair, I have to look into the complaints received from students," he said.
Tawde said he does not mind asking a retired Judge to conduct an inquiry into the matter, but his priority is to get the resident doctors to call off their strike.
"Its better to conduct an inquiry and end this matter once and for all. If allegations (against Lahane) proved false, we will support him and not let him be targeted."
"This is a very serious issue. He is an asset to society and getting him in trouble is not in the interest of society. Such people (intending to get Lahane in trouble) are a blot on society," Davkhare said.
