MACT member KD Vadane in his recent order awarded the compensation to the claimant, Kiran alias Kirron Patil, a resident of Bhiwandi.
Vadane ordered the two respondents--owner of the container Roshan Freight Carriers and the insurer The New India Assurance Co. Limited--to jointly and severally make the payment along with 8 per cent interest from the date of filing of the claim that is December 2015.
The owner of the container, involved in the accident, did not appear before MACT and hence the case was decided ex-parte against him.
Patil claimed in the plea that he had to undergo several surgeries and spent around Rs 40 lakh. He said he used to earn just over Rs 30,000 per month and sought a compensation of Rs 1.55 crore.
