A motor accidents claims tribunal (MACT) here has awarded over Rs six lakh to the parents of a four-year-old girl who was hit by a water tanker in West Delhi in July 2015.
MACT Presiding Officer Paramjit Singh awarded Rs 6,54,000 to the parents of Baby Busra, and asked the New India Assurance Company, the insurer of the offending vehicle, to pay the amount.
"The offending vehicle was insured with New India Assurance Company Ltd. at the time of accident and as such shall be liable to pay the awarded amount, the tribunal said.
The insurance company, however, shall be entitled to recover the compensation amount from the driver and the owner of the vehicle, in accordance with the law, the tribunal said.
It also noted that the driver was not holding a valid driving licence at the time of accident.
According to the complaint, Busra was hit by a water tanker on July 4, 2015 at Uttam Nagar in Delhi, while she was playing near her house.

The vehicle which was allegedly being driven in a rash and negligent manner hit her after which she fell down and succumbed to injuries.
The tribunal perused the record revealing that the driving licence was not a valid one.
